Can't believe it has been years since Papa left us. Kris Aquino was right when she said that they'll never be okay with their mom's passing. I think my siblings and I were never okay knowing that we'll never get to see Papa ever again. But he's in a much, much better place now, so we're alright with that. We're at ease knowing that.

STORY OF THE DAY - 041009

Wanted to share this special story with you... Like a lot of things in life, it's much easier said than done but this is where faith and perseverance comes in.

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."

Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take the kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."

Finally, the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me..."

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter," and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsman said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one" and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams. Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping amn, and he stood and said "peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the king of kings in it's boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined.

The Man by the Window

STORY OF THE DAY - 040309

Two men both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his room-mate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imaging the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Then unexpectedly, a sinister thought entered his mind. Why should the other man alone experience all the pleasures of seeing everything while he himself never got to see anything? It didn't seem fair. At first thought the man felt ashamed. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and he found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window - that thought, and only that thought now controlled his life.

Late one night as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room he never moved, never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running in. In less than five minutes the coughing and choking stopped along with that the sound of breathing. Now there was only silence - deathly silence.

The following morning the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take it away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Epilogue... You can interpret the story in any way you like. But one moral stands out: There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all of the things you have that money can't buy.

My friends picked me up at around 6am, then stopped at the first Jollibee in NLEx for breakfast. SCTEX was a breeze, I think only an hour from Dau to Subic.

OCEAN ADVENTURE

We had a hard time looking for Ocean Adventure. They should post more directional signs. We finally arrived at Ocean Ad a little past 10am, just in time for the 1030am Sea Lion show which was environmentally themed. Brandy and Maddison (sea lions) were so adorable!

After the show, we went to the Learning Center for a little lesson on the animals of Ocean Adventure. We didn't finish it though coz we were all too hungry! We had no choice but to dine in the restaurant inside Ocean Ad. Food's ok... especially for the hungry, haha!

After lunch, we then headed to the other theater for the Dolphin show.

The show was great! This is what we missed in HK Ocean Park. Because we got there late afternoon, we didn't get the chance to see the shows there.

My favorite from this group would be the False Killer Whale... but I wasn't able to take pictures of his antics :( I only took a few pictures... I wasn't very comfortable with the super duper warm weather and I forgot to bring an extra shirt! So I was feeling hot, and sweaty and icky :( the whole afternoon. Note to self this summer: always bring an extra shirt whenever I go out! Even to the mall!

1. Been sick (flu) since Sunday. My nose is super runny and I had to stop taking my meds, doctors advice. I had to stick to ascorbic acid and water only. And I think I already drank 8, not glasses... liters or maybe gallons of h2o today. I feel so bloated!

2. Eventhough I wasn't feeling well, I accompanied my sister to the mall this afternoon to buy some stuff (and pay my Globe bill, haaaay....) My Dahubs took care of our cab fare :) I think he just wants me out of the house so he can get some uninterrupted snooze. He's sick too (poor Dahubs!).

3. I've been getting this malware warning everytime I open Perezhilton.

4. You know that 25 Random Things tag from Facebook, been trying to do it for weeks now :( I only have 12 at the moment.

5. I'm playing 5 FB game applications now: Fashion Wars, Mafia Wars, Vampire Wars, Sorority Life, and Pet Society. If you're playing these games, please add me up!

Okay... This is what I brought this afternoon to the mall, a Kenneth Cole NY EcoTote priced at $20.00 so around Php960.00. I know... they're supposed to be like an extra bag for shopping so you won't need those paper/plastic bags. But I love ecototes/ecobags! They're light, and big... not to mention super cute!

It's actually a birthday gift from Tita Marth. I think they are not available locally. I dunno, I can be wrong too.

Here's what's inside :) It's a mess! Heeh...

My super duper old Esprit wallet, Animob coin purse, my Blackberry, Mickey pouch for my BB, MNG sunglasses, a light black jacket (I get cold easily, thus the jacket even on a warm summer day), wet tissue, Ipod, Blistex lipbalm, gum, my rosary and a St. Eugenie pendant (a gift from my former boss, I love it!), and lots of loose change and receipts.

Yay!

My Dahubs just received the text yesterday... we are now proud homeowners! Whooopee!

We really need to save up for condo. That's why these past few months, we've been avoiding certain shops from the mall, hee... We go there for a bite... or mass. But we love checking out furniture and appliance shops of course. Good thing we got some already from the wedding presents, but we still need to buy a lot. Oh I mean, my Dahubs still needs to buy a lot! Hahah! I'm so broke!

Anyhoo, that's why we went to Pajo a few days ago. We were told that furniture prices there are 30-50% cheaper. Most of the stores sell the same stuff, nothing special. So maybe, we'll just have some stuff customized.

We got a teeny tiny condo, just enough for maybe 2 wee bedrooms and a tiny living room and kitchen. We're thinking of maybe a small counter/bar top which will also be like our breakfast nook, and a small dining table for 2. We found this really cute dining table in Pajo, but we still want to check our some more stores in the mall. And maybe have that counter/bar top custom made.
